Brake Master Cylinder Help

Post by LonThompson »

Greetings ARO Friends; Hoping for Help. I have two ARO Hunter 244 jeeps. A 1992 with Ford Ranger 2.3L and a 1997 with Jeep Wrangler 2.5L. The only 2 I know of in the state of Ohio,USA. I bought the 92 in 1996 at a small used car lot and the 97 in 2001 at a different small used car lot. Both orphins. No parts or service available in USA. Right now I am trying to find a new master cylinder for the 1997. the master cylinder has on the bottom a large number 23 followed by small number K0236. On end is number 291418B. on fluid resevoir it says VOLVO. Numbers do not corospond to any US Volvo vehicle. Does anyone know of availabilty and cost in US dollars of such a part??? Any Help greatly appreciated. Best Regards, Lon "ARO's Forever!"

Welcome Lon,

If you post pictures of your two 244, it will be great, and of course
the master cylinder you need.

New parts or service out of Romania isn't easy...

Hello George; I tried to keep letter small. I should have added that I would be just as happy if I could get the proper rebuild kit to try to fix my master cylinder.either method new or rebuild is ok so long as I can fix the brakes and drive it again. Yes it has disc brakes on front that say Renault on pads. rear drum brakes but I did not see a name on them. The pads and shoes are also getting thin. Probably have 2 to 3 thousand miles left on them. The ARO has 48,+++ miles in it. would it be too much to ask to check on these items also? Best regards. Lon

Hello Ramiro; Thank you. I'm sorry to say I'm a dinosaur living in the 21st century.I do not have a computer. I have a webtv internet unit.It hooks to phone line for connection and my tv as view screen.limited internet access and email. can't upload or download anything. Don't have a digital camara either. I did see a picture you posted of your ARO it's beautiful. I wish my ARO's looked as good. I had to stop driving my 92 because it got so rusty. Now the 97 is following in the 92's footsteps. I'v never seen late model vehicles rust so bad. I guess it's the climate and the tons of salt they spread on the roads here in winter. In the past I have had some Renault Dauphine's and Fiat 600D's that I loved but had to junk because they just rusted away. I've always liked weird or rare orphin type vehicles. I still have a 62 Citroen 2CV and a 85 Peugeot 505TD which are rare in USA like the ARO's. But the parts are easier to obtain. Bye for now. Regards, Lon

Hello Lon!
I had In Russia such problems with master cylinder.
I don't repaired "native". I fitted from another cars.
criterions of changing:
- piston diam 15/16" ... 1 1/8"
- the working course - is not less than at "native"
- ease of connection to the vacuum - servo (or at once to establish in the tax with it)
On my 243 the master cylinder from MMC PAJERO , diam 15/16" . Can used from MMC GALANT, diam 1", but I don't know what his name in USA.
Also on three ARO (and my 244) I established master cylinder + servo from TOYOTA SURF ( RUNNER in USA ), diam 1".
It devices is having analogue connecting joints M10x1 and analogue the outlet conic for brake pipe.
For rear contour I recommend using residal valve "WilWood" on 10 lb.

Excuse for my bad english :)
